Gordan Reynolds

Unknown-2

Gordon Reynolds has been making photographs for this show for over 15 years. While his work typically tends toward the odd and surreal or geometric, emphasizing lines and planes, these abstractions of stains, graffiti, and poster fragments explore a different world. When they were made, his digital editing skills weren’t advanced enough to make something pleasing from these raw images, and for several years, they sat ignored in his catalog.

Recent Adobe upgrades to Lightroom prompted Gordon to return to these images and experiment with various alterations. He found the improved masking and other features helped make them into more painterly photographs. This requires his willingness to consider the raw image as only a starting point, a thing to be molded into a final product that ends up divorced from the original. Many of them could be pushed in different directions to produce other interesting results, which Gordon intends to explore.
