How to Get Great Nature and Bird Photos with Telephoto Lenses (Two Parts)
David Wong will lead a two-part workshop at Viewpoint on shooting nature and wildlife.
Part 1: January 18, 2025 - 9 AM - 12 PM
The first class will be a classroom session on how to make well-crafted nature and wildlife photos that are artful and good. Topics covered will include the importance of backgrounds and how to choose the right ones, the best camera settings, such as different focus modes and auto-focus sensitivity, working with long telephoto lenses, pre-shot settings for various wildlife types, different lighting and angle considerations, and much more.
Part 2: January 19, 2025 - 7 AM - 12 PM
On the second day, we will venture out early to a local wildlife sanctuary to put into practice what we covered the previous day. This time of the year is the winter bird migration in the Sacramento Valley and the perfect subject to practice our wildlife shooting with. BIF (birds in flight) photography is one of the most challenging types of photography, so practicing with birds will help us prepare for all types of nature and wildlife photography.
