Greg Rouse: Spineless 

In recognition of World Oceans Day, June 8th, this exhibit presents images captured by Greg Rouse that illuminate some of the smallest organisms that inhabit the ocean depths.

Throughout Rouse’s scientific career, he has endeavored to help the public appreciate the diversity and beauty of our spineless relatives in the oceans and marine invertebrates. To accomplish this goal, he uses various cameras and microscopes that allow him to make close-ups of typically tiny creatures. Rouse selected the works displayed in Spineless from thousands of images that he has taken over decades. These images include macro photos of animals taken with DSLR or mirrorless cameras. Others are close-ups acquired with light microscopes attached to camera bodies. Some images reveal amazing details at the cellular level. The invertebrates in this exhibit, which vary in size from less than 1/25 of an inch to more than 6 inches, were acquired in tropical and frigid waters ranging from Australia to California to Antarctica, including Belize and Papua New Guinea.
